    MEET FIVE OF OUR WARRIORS

    Meet the Warrior

    Jackson
    Age 11

    I wouldn’t be living if I wasn’t fighting.

Jackson knows what it means to discover the warrior within. Diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 7, he faced more than two years of treatment, missed time at school and had to step away from the sports he loved. Now in remission, 11-year-old Jackson is back to soccer, gaming, bike riding and spreading hope to other kids still in the fight.

    Meet the Warrior

    Isabella
    Age 10

The fight was fierce, I was fiercer.

Isabella is a second-degree blue belt, and she's been fighting far longer than she's been on the mat. Diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia at 5, she spent two years in treatment before reaching remission. Now 10 and cancer-free, she says, "I believe we can one day kick cancer out for good."

    Meet the Warrior

    Max
    Age 10

Hey cancer, you picked the wrong fight.

Max’s fight began at age 5, when worsening fatigue led to a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. When treatment caused him to lose his hair, his dad and two brothers shaved their heads too, reminding Max he never had to fight alone. Today, the 10-year-old from California continues periodic treatments, but he’s back to the beach, swimming and dreaming of becoming a CIA or FBI agent one day.

    Meet the Warrior

    Arianna
    Age 16

Giving up was never part of my journey.

Hospital staff called Arianna their "Warrior Princess," because she showed up to treatment in princess dresses instead of hospital gowns. Diagnosed with sarcoma of the liver at 6, she faced every round with courage beyond her years. Now 16, she's thriving as a high school dance student, inspiring other young warriors with her cancer journey.

    Meet the Warrior

    Wesley
    Age 7

Cancer is tough, but so am I.

Wesley pictures himself as a Viking dragon hunter, and he's already slayed something bigger. What looked like a broken femur at age 3 turned out to be acute lymphoblastic leukemia. More than two years of chemo, lumbar punctures, and physical therapy later, the 7-year-old is in remission and back to running, baseball, and swimming.

    BACKING THE
    FIGHT AGAINST
    CHILDHOOD CANCER.

The battle against childhood cancer is being fought in hospitals and labs across the country. Hyundai Hope on Wheels helps fund that work through research grants to Children’s Oncology Group member institutions. In 2025, we awarded over $27 million across four grant categories.

    Hyundai Scholar Hope Grant

A two-year, $400,000 grant supporting researchers conducting translational research and working directly with patients.

    Hyundai Young Investigator Grant

A two-year, $300,000 grant supporting principal investigators researching the biology of childhood cancer.

    Bridge 2k Grant

A one-year, $150,000 grant providing seed funding to support the resubmission of promising pediatric cancer grant applications.

    Hyundai Impact Grant

A $100,000 grant supporting innovative childhood cancer research, pediatric oncology programs and direct patient assistance.

    DEALERS WHO CHAMPION THE FIGHT

Hyundai Hope on Wheels got its start in 1998 when a small group of New England-area Hyundai dealers joined together to support a local children’s hospital. Today, over 855 Hyundai dealers nationwide donate a portion of every new car sold, with additional generous support from Hyundai Motor America.

    OUR OTHER PHILANTHROPY PROGRAMS

Beyond the fight against childhood cancer, Hyundai supports communities through education, safety, and the environment, including STEM programs that give kids the tools to build what comes next.

    Want to know more?

Founded in 1998, Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer through research funding and public awareness. Supported by Hyundai Motor America, over 855 dealers, and 17,000,000 customers, the organization donates a portion of every new vehicle sale to pediatric cancer research. By the end of 2026, donations will exceed $303 million.

Increased detection, coding changes, and changing risk factors may play a role in the recorded uptick of childhood cancers. According to the National Cancer Institute, other types of environmental exposures have also been linked to the rise in pediatric cancers.

Some childhood cancers may have outside causes like radiation exposure, and others may have causes that have not yet been found. But many are likely to be the result of random events that sometimes happen inside a cell, without having an outside cause.

Childhood cancer is considered rare, with about 15,000 cases diagnosed annually in the United States in people under 20 years old. This corresponds to an incidence rate of 15.3 per 100,000 per year, or roughly 1 in 6,500 children and adolescents. However, the incidence rate varies by age, with children under 5 and those ages 15 to 19 experiencing the highest rates at 231 and 241 cases per million, respectively. Children ages 5 to 9 and 10 to 14 have lower rates at 127 and 158 cases per million, respectively.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) is recognized every September by organizations, families, and individuals around the world. The goal of CCAM is to raise awareness and funds for children with cancer, their families, and those who care for them.

Pediatric cancer, also known as childhood cancer, is a term used to describe cancers that affect children from birth to 14 years of age, and sometimes teenagers between 15 and 19 years old. These cancers are rare and can differ from adult cancers in how they grow and spread, how they are treated, and how they respond to treatment. Some common types of pediatric cancer include leukemia, brain and spinal cord tumors, bone and soft tissue cancers, osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma, lymphomas, neuroblastoma, Wilms tumor, and retinoblastoma.

You can donate to cancer research through Hyundai Hope on Wheels online at https://hyundaihopeonwheels.org/donate/ or send a check to: Hyundai Hope on Wheels, 10550 Talbert Ave, Fountain Valley, CA 92708. Your tax-deductible donation can make a difference in supporting this life-saving research. Hyundai Hope on Wheels and the institutions of the Children’s Oncology Group of America are working towards the day when no child ever dies from pediatric cancer.
